BEST TIME TO VISIT/ CLIMB MOUNT ELGON- ELGON TREKKING

Mount Elgon has two seasons: dry and wet. As these are the dry months with the optimum weather, December to mid-March and mid-June to the end of October are the best times to climb Elgon. Sunlight, sunshine, clear skies, and beautiful sights. Nevertheless, no matter the season, a significant change in the weather is always possible. Bad weather may inhibit climbers from completely appreciating their ascent because it makes it more challenging to snap stunning pictures and increases the effort of the trip to the peak.

You can see peaks, snow, and ice clearly after you reach the mountain’s summit. You will consequently be fascinated by wet clothes and extreme heat. Let me go over the breakdown each month.

January – March: April- May: Within these months, Mount Elgon experiences heavy downpours and high temperatures. These rains are experienced at the end of March. It is from this reason that many tour operators do not offer climbing safaris in these months.

June- August: The temperatures decrease along with the rainfall from late June through July and August. Additionally, the sun is shining brightly, creating clear skies that are ideal for climbing and shooting pictures. Due to the large number of enthusiasts who participate, this is also thought of as the peak season.

August- October: These are peak seasons, just like June and August. The weather is dry and the days are warm. On the Southern routes, however, the first few days of the trip could see downpours and clouds covering the moorland region. Everything is fine after the rain forest is gone. Up until roughly mid-October, when the preparation for the brief showers starts, the weather is favorable in these months is that the trails tend to be so busy, but with perseverance and teamwork, you can push to the summit.

October- November: The number of climbers declines as the weather on Mount Elgon gets increasingly unpredictable. As in other tropical areas, the rainier season heralds itself with afternoon clouds and sporadic thunderstorms. However, as long as you are prepared to withstand the occasional shower, there should not be any big issues.

December: While December is frequently the end of the brief rainy season, this is still a popular time to climb Mount Elgon. Rain often falls in the afternoon, while the sky is usually clear in the morning and evening.

In conclusion, due to its equatorial location, the rainy season in the mountains is unpredictable. As a result, it is possible to experience both dry and rainy weather throughout the same season. As a result, you must be well equipped for any conditions.
